Prior to establishing J3P Health, our Founder and CEO, Alan Friedman, M.A., underwent a transformative healthcare experience when his daughter Jules was born with complex medical needs. Alan Friedman, MA

founder and CEO

Alan Friedman, M.A., is a trailblazer in healthcare leadership and professional development. He is the Founder and CEO of J3P Health drawing from his expansive experience, Alan is recognized as a distinguished advisor and coach to top-tier physicians, nurses, medical schools, healthcare systems, professional societies, and medical groups worldwide. His insights have been instrumental across the healthcare landscape, spanning countries from North America, South America, Europe and Australia.

  • Alan’s personal journey, marked by his daughter's intricate medical requirements, drove him to champion the pivotal role of emotional intelligence in healthcare. This personal touch, combined with a deep understanding of clinical competence, informs J3P Health’s transformative programs tailored for healthcare professionals.

    Currently, Alan contributes as an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Medical Quality (AJMQ) and holds a position as an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University’s Master in Medical Management program. A firm advocate of continuous learning, Alan has recently completed the Executive Program for Growing Businesses at Stanford Business School.

    Alan holds an M.A. in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University, a Certificate in Management Practices from New York University, and a B.A. in Consumer Affairs from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has completed the Columbia Business School Coaching Intensive Certification Program (CCCP) and is a certified administrator for the Learning Versatility Index (LVI) and the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) Benchmarks 360 Instrument. He is also a Master Trainer for the Hogan Assessment Suite, Deeper Signals, AON Adept 15, and the Change Leadership Behavior Inventory (CLBI).

    He co-founded and served as the Co-Chair for the Advisory Council for the American Medical Student Association (AMSA). Additionally, he serves on the board of ANEWAYFORPURPOSE, a not-for-profit whose mission is to create integrated employment and social programming for people with disabilities in small business environments.

    Alan’s prior roles include Abbott Laboratories, CR Bard, Neurometrix, and Johnson & Johnson leadership positions.

Randall Wickman, Colonel (Ret.) U.S. Army

Chief Operating Officer

Randall Wickman is a highly decorated U.S. Army Infantry Colonel, professional leader, and combat-wounded veteran with nearly 30 years of active duty service. He led Soldiers from platoon through brigade levels, commanding units at the company, battalion, and brigade echelon.

  • Randall's key leadership positions include Commander & Professor of Military Science at Marquette University and the Military Science Department Chair, for the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force programs. Wickman served as Commander of a Basic Combat Training battalion, raising new Soldiers over two years.

    Randall commanded the Khyber Joint Border Coordination Center in Torkham, Afghanistan, serving as a military diplomat between the international coalition, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Wickman’s highest command was an Infantry Brigade serving as an observing, coaching, and training organization supporting U.S. Army National Guard and Army Reserve brigade sized units west of the Mississippi.

    He led Soldiers during combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and peacekeeping missions in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Randall’s awards include medals for combat tours, the Purple Heart, and medals for exemplary performance and service.

    He is a graduate of the Army’s premier small unit leadership course, known as Ranger School; a senior parachutist and jump master; and a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Command and General Staff College, and Senior Service College. He holds an executive master’s degree in Organizational Psychology with an emphasis on organizational change management and a concentration in adult learning and education from Columbia University. Randall also holds a master’s degree in diplomacy from Norwich University and an undergraduate degree in political science from Ripon College.

Diane Blake

Director, Business Operations

As J3P’s Director, Business Operations, Diane is deeply involved with client experience and impact. Before joining our team, she was the Director of Learning at Empathetics, an online learning company developed at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where she led all of the educational activities for the company.

  • She holds a B.S in Marketing from The University of Connecticut.

Kelsey Phillips, PACE

Director, J3P Experience

Kelsey is the Director, J3P Experience. Prior to joining J3P, she worked with specialty physician practices focusing on wellness and payor relations.

  • She graduated summa cum laude with her B.S in Healthcare Administration from Southern New Hampshire University and has over 10 years of experience in healthcare administration and management.

Bruce Gewertz, MD

Special Consultant, Physician Leadership

Dr. Gewertz is the Surgeon in Chief, Vice-Dean and Vice-President at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles. As a special consultant on physician leadership issues, he helps J3P provide our client partners with unique perspectives in leading complex organizations.

  • Dr. Gewertz is an authority in this field. He co-authored The Best Medicine: A Physicians Guide to Effective Leadership, (Springer, New York, NY, 2015): a bestselling book on physician leadership and is the senior author in the first textbook focused on human factors and surgery to be published in late 2020 by Springer Nature (Human Factors in Surgery) He currently leads multiple investigations into measurements of physician well-being, self-awareness, personal fulfillment, career satisfaction, and leadership. He led a $4 million multi-institutional research project integrating human performance and technology, funded by the Department of Defense. He also created the Cedars-Sinai Leadership in Healthcare Improvement (LIHI) program, which empowers physicians to develop their leadership skills.

    From 1992 until 2006, Dr. Gewertz chaired the department of surgery at the University of Chicago. Since moving to Los Angeles, Dr. Gewertz has played a major role in catapulting Cedars Sinai’s clinical and academic programs to national prominence. He continues to practice as a vascular surgeon and has authored two popular textbooks in the field (Atlas of Vascular Surgery, and Surgery of the Aorta and its Branches). His Curriculum Vitae includes 250 publications, significant grant funding, as well as prestigious speaking engagements.

Terri Christensen, PhD

Senior Consultant

Dr. Christensen is J3P’s Senior Consultant for Physician Learning and Transformation. She is responsible for ensuring that our educational workshops, training and content are engaging and effective.

  • Previously, she served as the Vice President for Learning Innovation at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, PA and Executive Director of Physician Experience and Support at the Cleveland Clinic. In both roles, she oversaw physician on-boarding, leadership development, succession planning, and the Physician Academy.

    Most recently she was the Senior Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Health Affairs at Northeast Ohio Medical University. In that role, she served as an internal consultant for college leaders in vetting strategic ideas, identifying growth opportunities, developing plans for key initiatives, and measuring initiative success.

    Dr. Christensen earned her B.A. from The University of Pittsburgh, an M.S. from Bowling Green State University, and Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Kent State University.

Cody Hatcher, MA

Director, Data Instrumentation & Analytics

Cody is the Director of Data Instrumentation and Analytics at J3P. Cody’s research interests are in creativity, assessment, and learning. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Psychology at the University of Connecticut.

  • He received his B.S. in Biology from Virginia Tech and an M.A. in Educational Psychology from the University of Connecticut. He has been published in the Journal of Creative Behavior and collaborated on several projects related to psychoeducational assessment.

Sheriese Rush, MBA

Manager, Finance & Accounting

Sheriese is the Manager of our Finance and Accounting systems. She has a proven track record of developing financial and operational systems resulting in transformational growth while significantly improving efficiencies and innovating internal processes.

  • Sheriese is a highly collaborative and diplomatic communicator, creating strong multi-level and cross-functional relationships. She possesses over 20 years of diverse experience in ethical business operations, designing and implementing process improvements, and creating calm amid chaos.

    With a successful history in process analysis and optimization, she alerts management to potential areas of concern and creates innovative processes to mitigate associated risks.

    Outside of J3P Health, Sheriese is a patent inventor, serial business owner, and dog lover.
